Here we go. There was the lab. It looked pretty nice, and why shouldn't it be? It was a place for research, a place for discovery. And it was a place for beginnings. Like Brendan's own. He'd left Blue Bay, the port he came into Genesis through, at about noon to come here and recieve his first Pokemon. It seemed to him that it had to have been at least an hour ago. Maybe he was hopeless at following trails, and he'd gone in a few circles. Maybe it just seemed like he'd been searching for forever. But regardless, Brendan had ended up right where he wanted to be, and now that he was standing at the door to the lab, his desire to get there, go in, and be done with it was gone. It would just take a second's effort to reach out and knock, but he almost couldn't do it. The young man glanced to the forest over his shoulder, briefly reminding himself of his goal. If he were still at home, he couldn't raise his own Pokemon. That's why he was here. And you aren't getting anything done standing around, either, he thought. Enough dawdling was enough. With a deep breath-- Why am I making this so hard? Just do it, Brendan!--he balled up his fingers and knocked on the door. Jeez. Finally

After a few seconds he door would open up as Brendan would find a teenage boy looking not much older than him with a bowl hair cut and glasses, wearing a lab coat standing in the doorway. " Ah hello there, may I help you? I am the professor of this lab, my name is Professor Evergreen." He would say with a kind smile, despite how strange it seemed for someone his age to be in charge of a Lab.

He wasn't quite sure who he was expecting to see, but whatever expectations Brendan has, Professor Evergreen didn't meet any of them. How much older than Brendan himself was this guy? But then, he was the seventeen year old just now getting his first Pokemon, so he didn't really have room to wonder.
Evergreen seemed friendly enough, so Brendan returned the grin and introduced himself. "Name's Brendan. I was hoping I could get my starter Pokemon here? This is the right place, isn't it?"

Hearing this remark, Professor evergreen would chuckle a bit. " Ah I guess my appearance causes a bit of confusion, but I confirm to you that this is indeed the New Foreston Pokemon Lab. This is indeed where you may get your starter pokemon" Professor Evergreen would move from the doorway inviting Bredan in as he would motion for him to follow him to the back room. In the back room, Professor Evergreen would stop in front of a series of tables. One each of the tables would be 3 pokeballs with a map above them indicating the region of origin. " Within these pokeballs are the starter pokemon from the regions of Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh. You may pick on of these 12 pokemon."

Grinning, the shorter young man ran a hand through his hair. "Just checking." He stepped through the door after the professor, leaning over the maps with interest. He'd heard of all these regions before, but never seen them. He was more familiar with the Pokemon, though.
"Treecko, I used to see them all the time back home. Saw a few Mudkip, too, but not so many of these others. What's a Torchic like? And a Cyndaquil?"
Brendan was mostly Professor Evergreen's opposite: an uninformed slacker. But at least he wasn't afraid to admit it.

" Ah so you want to know about Torchic and Cyndaquil. Torchic is the chick pokemon. They're naturally curious and are very inquisitive about things. Thus, they need someone to guide them and to train them. When they evolve they become they become skilled fighters in both it's evolutions." Professor Evergreen would begin, sounding a bit like a textbook, having memorized information about these pokemon. " As for Cyndaquil, they are usually timid, but its actual behavior depends on its personality. Since they're young, they don't have full control of their strengths and weaknesses. Upon evolving, Cyndaquil tend to lose the timidity and become more aggressive and mastering of their power."

Wow. So the Evergreen guy really did know what he was talking about. Though Brendan wasn't all that surprised. How else would he have gotten his own lab?
Studying the PokeBalls again, he shook his head at the information he heard. Chick Pokemon? That implied bird, and that wasn't going to happen. He hated birds. Cyndaquil sounded good, but as he scanned the lists again, another name caught his eye.
"Chikorita." He could vaguely remember finding one of those in the Olive Jungle a few years back, when he had been a Ranger. It had been a sweet little thing, and he'd been sad to release it.
"Grass type, right? Could I have one of those?"

" Yes Chikorita is in fact a grass pokemon and a fast grower at that. If that's your choice, you may have it." Professor Evergreen responds as he walks over to another table containing a few items and an envelope. " You will also need these items, they'll help you to start off your journey." He would lay them out revealing them to be a pokedex, pokegear, 5 pokeballs, 2 potions and $2000.

"Oh, wow. Thanks!" Of course, Brendan had known he would recieve his first Pokemon here. The extra items and money, however, were a pleasant surprise. A Pokedex, full of information, was now his, and PokeGear for anything else. He poked at it and flipped through the functions quickly; it served as both a clock and a map, which would be incredibly useful. Then, on top of that, there were five PokeBalls and two potions, followed by the cash. At least he didn't have to start out broke.
Shuffling objects around in his arms, he looked at the PokeBall containing his own starter. He would get a look at it--Him? Her? He'd find out soon enough--when he got back outside. The lab was mildly cluttered, and he didn't want to mess anything up. I guess you need a name, too, don't ya? he thought, tucking it onto a belt loop. Then, looking back up at Evergreen, he repeated, "Thanks. And, um, nice to meet you. Maybe I'll see you sometime."
He meant it, too. Brendan liked this other kid-Professor, and he decided to make an effort to visit sometime, even if it was just to get a question answered. He waved offhandedly as he pushed the door back open and walked out, realizing only as he did that he was going to have to hike all the way back through those dratted woods again. At least this time, he wouldn't be alone.
