OoC: Just letting anyone who cares know that this thread is open. If you want, just pop on in.
BiC: It was still mid-day, as Kage was leaving the town New Foreston. With him, everything he needed to be a pokemon trainer. It was an exciting and new experience for him. Kage understood that it was not going to be easy one bit. Yet, he was up to the challenge. The first challenge: get to know the new pokemon.
The darkly clothed trainer sat down in the shade of a tree, right against the trunk. It was a nice day, but still Kage retreated from the sun as much as possible. His mind was too wrapped up on the fact he was about to see Cyndaquil again... for the second time.
Taking out the pokeball, Kage pressed the front button. With a flash of a red beam, Cyndaquil was out and about. Only he was more out than about. The pokemon stood there, on his two hind legs, looking and Kage. Taking off his hood, the new trainer spoke with a friendly voice, "Hey there. How're you this fine day?" For a moment, the fire mouse pokemon simply stood there, tilting his head, not saying anything. Then, without further hesitation, Cyndaquil walked over to his trainer's side, and sat by him. Both pokemon and trainer were content in their places, feeling rather nice. So, now thinking it was a nice time to rest, Kage and Cyndaquil sat together, in a peaceful silence, with him rubbing the pokemon's warm head kindly.

This is such a nice day. Just sitting here with my pokemon. That traveling to get here, right now, I think it was worth it. Worth it big time. I just wished th-
PPPRRRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
Both Kage and Cyndaquil were surprised by the intense screech of something right in front of them. The dark trainer had simply jumped and partially reached for his hood, while Cyndaquil had gone so far as to scurry quickly behind the tree. Regaining his composure, Kage looked around, and suddenly found the source of the racket.
Kage was surprised to see a Pidgey (level 5) in front of them. It was not the biggest pokemon ever, but the bird did have some height compared to Cyndaquil. Kage tilted his head to the right, saying quietly, "What the... sheesh, you're loud." The ringing in his ears was finally dying down, when the dark trainer began to be friendly.
"Hey there," Kage began nicely, "You kinda scared me and Cyndaquil." He made a motion to the pokemon to his left, sticking his head out from behind the tree. The trainer was about to speak again, when he was interrupted by one of those treacherous screeches again.
In retaliation, the trainer said, "Hey, cut it-," but was again blocked out by the very irritating screech. Still clamping him ears shut, Kage looked out to see the Pidgey hopping up and down happily, seeming rather glad that it was doing. Now, Kage stood up, looking down upon Pidgey. The bird pokemon looked up, still rather pleased with the effects of its screech. Narrowing his eyes, Kage firmly called to his pokemon saying, "Okay Cyndaquil, time to show this one what we're made of. Ready?" As if to shed the timid nature right from it, Cyndaquil jumped in front of his trainer, prepared for what was to come. Now, their first fight was about to begin.

Looking from behind his pokemon, Kage assessed what the battle would be like. One thing he noticed was the fact the Pidgey seemed ready, almost glad, for this kind of challenge. The pokemon had faith in its own skill. This slightly worried the new trainer, being that this was his first fight. Kage did not want to go down the first time battling. However, the trainer knew he had a few potions for his friend. They were prepared for this.
Cyndaquil (level 5) V.S. Pidgey (level 5)
Kage started out by commanding, “Alright Cyndaquil, use Leer!” Cyndaquil visually bore into Pidgey, exposing the weaknesses. Before another word could be said, Pidgey ran forward, ramming into Cyndaquil using Tackle (Cyndaquil: 12/17). Now, it was the trainer’s turn. “Alright, now Tackle Cyndaquil!” The fire pokemon charged at the opponent, letting out puffs of fire from its back every few seconds. The attack was a direct hit; the pokemon took damage (Pidgey: 12/18). The previous move Leer had helped Cyndaquil find a good place to hit. The enemy pokemon reacted to the attack by using Tackle again, after Cyndaquil found his stance again and the Pidgey regained some composure (Cyndaquil: 7/17).
During this time, Kage was thinking of having this pokemon apart of the team. Maybe he could win over the heart of this one, like Cyndaquil. Though, even he could see how it would be difficult for a new trainer. Focusing back on the battle, Kage made an interesting command. “Cyndaquil, use Leer once more; find those weaknesses.” Again, the fire mouse pokemon attempted to peer at the Pidgey, understanding what attack would make which areas hurt more. It was then Pidgey used Tackle again, hitting Cyndaquil squarely (Cyndaquil: 2/17).
Now, it was time to help his friend. The dark trainer called to Cydnaquil. As the pokemon returned, being eyed by a now confused Pidgey, Kage brought out a potion, and used it while saying, “Here, buddy; this will help. You’re doing great. Just keep this up, don’t back down.”(Cyndaquil: 17/17) Still being friendly, he sent Cyndaquil back out into battle, strategizing on the health of the Pidgey. He was getting weaker, but this last move should do what he wanted. But the next thing that happened wasn’t too great. Once Cyndaquil was back out, Pidgey used Tackle, hurting once healed pokemon (Cyndaquil: 12/17).
“Cydnaquil,” Kage directed in full confidence, “Use Tackle!” As told, the pokemon went for the Pidgey, inflicting more pain than before (Pidgey: 4/18). One of the Pidgey’s wings looked bad, has it hung lower than the other, rather than straight back and relaxed. Unfortunatly for the Pidgey, this new injury left it in such a weak state, the Tackle it used was dodged by Cydnaquil with more of an ease. Then, it was time. Kage stepped forward, pulling out a pokeball from his bag. Pressing the button, the pokeball grew in size, and was ready to capture the Pidgey. “Alright Pidgey, let’s see you fight this.” Kage threw the pokeball at the wounded Pidgey. In the pokemon’s eyes, there was an understanding that it was defeated. The device stopped in mid-air, warping the pokemon within using the beam. Then, it fell to the ground, leaving Kage and Cyndaquil waiting.

Happily, Kage walked over the pokeball and picked it up. This was his second pokemon, Pidgey. He was starting to feel like a real pokemon trainer. But a new thought arose. Now that he had Pidgey, the pokemon was still injured. Kage, thinking of the things that could happen, decided to head off in the direction of the pokecenter. “Alright Cydnaquil, you can return. We need to head off to find some help.” Cydnaquil then returned to his pokeball, seeming to already understand the situation. Gosh, Cyndaquil sure seems like an easy-going pokemon. He never seems upset about being in a new place. It's so... nice.
Unknown to Kage, his little trip would be interrupted by another pokemon very shortly.

It was only minutes from the battle with Pidgey, and Kage didn't want to use his last potion. He knew where a pokecenter was, and he was heading right for it. The trainer walked briskly, not wanting to stay out in the open much longer. Maybe he wouldn't run into any trouble, like a lone trainer, or another wild pokemon.
Suddenly, one of his fears became a reality. Kage stopped abruptly, as a lone Rattata jumped ahead of him. I didn't want to do this... The pokemon hissed at him. Raaah! Rattata! Kage furrowed his eyebrows at the very small pokemon just ahead of him. He decided to deal with the enemy head-on. "I didn't want to do this, but I can't run." Quickly, the dark trainer threw up a pokeball into the air, letting out Cyndaquil. It was time to fight, and Pidgey just cannot.
Rattata (level 4, 15/15) V.S. Cyndaquil (level 5, 12/17)
Kage started off with a command. "Cyndaquil, hit 'em with Tackle!" Cyndaquil hit the Rattata, causing a fair amount of damage (Rattata: 11/15). Instead of retaliating with a direct attack, Rattata used Tail Whip, lowering Cyndaquil's defenses. Shoot; if it keeps doing that, Cyndaquil won't stand a chance against him any longer. Gotta keep hitting him hard. "Cyndaquil," began Kage, "use Tackle again!" Like before, Cyndaquil hit Rattata, hurting it (7/15). It worsened Kage's fears when Rattata used Tail Whip.
Still, the young trainer kept with his strategy. He told Cyndaquil to use Tackle, and the fire mouse pokemon still hit (Rattata: 3/15). This time, Rattata decided to attack, causing a lot of damage to Cyndaquil (Cyndaquil: 2/17). Kage was now under serious pressure. Argh! Now what?! I could try to attack, but Rattata could pull a fast one. Unless... The dark trainer felt for the pokeballs in the bag. Maybe this would work.
Like before, Kage stepped in front of Cyndaquil. Weakly, the fire pokemon looked up to it's trainer, gratitude flowing. Now, it was Kage's turn. With a determination, he threw the pokeball at the injured Rattata, hoping so badly that his plan would work. Some would have considered it a waste of a pokeball. However, the dark trainer called this 'the recruiting of a friend.'

Relieved, Kage walked over and picked up the pokeball. He placed it in another special-fitted place for team pokemon. Looking back at Cyndaquil, the trainer whispered to him, "Don't worry; now we can go." He also brought Cyndaquil back to it's pokeball, and now steadily ran towards the pokecenter. It wasn't in sight, but it soon would be. But this was not a quitting on his journey. He would be right back, to train his pokemon.
*Exeunt from thread for short period of time. Will be returning soon.*

It did not take long for Kage to come back and find another pokemon to fight. Using his pokedex, the dark trainer learned that the pokemon was Bidoof (level 4). He found the pokemon to be rather unique, but not in a good way. Kage decided to fight the Bidoof with Cyndaquil.
Cyndaquil (level 5, 17/17) V.S. Bidoof (level 4, 14/14)
Kage, believing it would be best to weaken the defenses of Bidoof, said to Cyndaquil, "Alright, start off with Leer!" Cyndaquil did as he was told, finding the weak places on the pokemon. Bidoof then attempted to attack Cyndaquil with a Tackle, but did not hit the fire pokemon. At this, Kage smiled, seeing how much better this battle was going than some of the others. In total confidence, the dark trainer then said, "Good job Cyndaquil, now use Tackle!" The attack was a direct hit, sending the Bidoof sprawling a few feet back (Bidoof: 10/14). Now angered, the wild Bidoof began to use Tackle on Cyndaquil, being that the pokemon was unable to dodge this time (Cyndaquil: 13/17). Cyndaquil's trainer winced as his pokemon got hit. He then said, "You're good, Cyndaquil, just use Leer!" The pokemon did this, lowering the opponent's defenses again. Bidoof, again, used Tackle on Cyndaquil, hurting him (Cyndaquil: 9/17). Kage then said to his companion, "Hang in there, Cyndaquil! Just use Tackle and see what happens!" Cyndaquil did as it was told, and inflicted more pain than usual because of it (Bidoof: 5/14). Again, Bidoof countered with a Tackle, hurting Cyndaquil (Cyndaquil: 5/17). Kage could see victory in sight. "Don't worry Cyndaquil," Kage began, with complete confidence, "Just one more Tackle, and you can take a nice break. Go ahead, Cyndaquil, use Tackle and finish it!" Cyndaquil did as it was told, using the move to finally defeat the wild pokemon.
*Cyndaquil won, receiving experience. *20 exp gain 20/50 Experience
Kage walked over to his companion. He then kindly picked up the small, very warm pokemon. The dark trainer smiled, and said, "Good job, buddy. We'll leave pretty soon, once the others have their fair share of fighting. Good job." The Cyndaquil happily said, "Cynda-quiiil." Kage then brought out the pokeball, and had the fire mouse pokemon return. Now, it was time to find another pokemon for Pidgey.

It took only a few short minutes of walking before Kage found another pokemon. However, he was concerned when there were two together. Not recognizing them, the dark trainer took out his Pokedex, and learned what he was up against; two Shinx (level 4 and 6). One seemed to be stronger, but it did not matter. Kage felt prepared for what was to come. Stepping forward, the dark trainer threw two pokeballs, now entering battle.
Pidgey (Level 5, 18/18) and Rattata (Level 4, 14/14) V.S. Shinx (Level 6, 19/19) and Shinx (Level 4, 15/15).
Pointing at the stronger Shinx, Kage shouted, "Let's start these first moves off hard! Pidgey, you use Sand-attack, while Rattata uses Tackle!" With a good jumping start, Pidgey flew into the tougher Shinx's face, spraying dirt into it's eyes. It yelped in surprise, but was not hurt. Blindfully, the Shinx began to wave it's paws at the air, swiping at nothing but dust. Then, Rattata sprang into action, using Tackle on the blinded Shinx. The pokemon then sprawled backwards, inflicted by a pain but not knowing where it came from (Shinx: 15/19).
For the other Shinx, watching his companion being teamed-up against was not pleasing. The opponent then decided to help his comrade, by using Tackle on Rattata. Kage watched as his pokemon took the blow, but got back up almost immediately (Rattata: 10/14). Yet, even being blinded, this did not stop the stronger Shinx to take revenge upon the Rattata. The enemy began to run at Rattata, but was not able to hit her due to it's bad eyesight.
Seeing that his team had an advantage, the dark trainer began with his tactics. "Good job you two. Both of you attack the same Shinx. Pidgey, use Tackle! Rattata, use Quick Attack!" In a blink of an eye, Rattata charged at the Shinx with incredible speed. The enemy pokemon never saw what hit it, only knowing it hurt and he was on the ground (Shinx: 11/19). The Shinx was about to get back up, but went right back down after Pidgey hit it with Tackle (7/19). This time, knowing that the two were close to defeat, both Shinx's targeted Rattata with Tackle, and both hit, leaving Kage's pokemon in bad shape (Rattata: 1/14).
It was now or never for Rattata. "Alright, this is it. Now we'll see who can stand after this. Rattata, Quick Attack! Pidgey, Tackle!" Again, the extremely speedy pokemon hit the stronger Shinx, causing it to fall to it's front knees in pain. There was no escape now, as Pidgey finished it off, causing the Shinx to faint.
Shinx (level 6) fainted, giving experience. Pidgey earned 30 exp. (30/50) Rattata earned 30 exp. (30/40)
Now, Kage and his team still had to beat the last Shinx...

The final Shinx decided to attack Rattata. Instead of taking the shot, the very weak pokemon saw the attack, and avoided it. Kage smiled at the survivability of his pokemon. She was tougher than he had anticipated.
Kage began to speak to his pokemon. "Good job out there, Rattata, and you too Pidgey. Just one more guy left, and I know you can do it. Now, Rattata, start out with Quick Attack, then Pidgey, follow that with Sand-attack!" Leaving after-images behind her, Rattata ran at the Shinx, knocking it down (Shinx: 9/15). While trying to get back up, Pidgey used Sand-attack, forcing dust and dirt into the eyes of the Shinx. It growled in pain and anger, and attempted to use Tackle on Rattata, but missed due to the lack of eyesight.
Kage knew they were about to win. He then commanded to his pokemon, "We're almost just done; just one more Tackle from both of you!" Pidgey started first, leaving the Shinx sprawling backward, hurt badly (Shinx: 2/17). Then, Rattata finished the job, causing the Shinx to faint.
Shinx fainted, giving experience Pidgey earned 20 exp. (50/50) Pidgey leveled up! Level 6 (00/60 exp) Rattata earned 20 exp. (50/40) Rattata leveled up! Level 5 (10/50 exp)
Smiling, Kage walked over to his pokemon. Pidgey happily bounced in front of him, while Rattata was trying to regain her strength. "You did good, Rattata," the dark trainer said to his weakened pokemon, "You can rest now." Using the pokeball, Kage had Rattata return, safely. He then looked over at the happy Pidgey, who couldn't have been more proud of itself. Kage then spoke to him. "You did great out there, Pidgey. Good job, and now you can rest for a bit." Again, like what he did to Rattata, he pressed the button on the front of the pokeball, having Pidgey enveloped by the red beam, returning safely.
Getting up from his kneeling position, the dark trainer looked around. There was still some daylight, but it was getting late. He would soon have to go to the pokemon center again. Kage smiled, and continued to search in the grass for more pokemon.

The dark trainer had been walking for some time. It seemed that it was getting later, and all the pokemon that lived in the day were finally leaving. This only meant the pokemon of the night would arrive soon. For Kage, it was rather exciting. To see a change in species of pokemon in the same area was a unique feeling. Still, the dedicated trainer continued his search for a pokemon.
No sooner than the thought of heading back to the pokemon center came up, did a pair of Rattata's come into view. They saw him as well, and decided to fight. Shoot... with two pokemon weakened, this will be challenging. I'll just go for it, and hope for the best. Kage released his two first pokemon, officially starting the battle.
Pidgey (Level 6, 21/21) and Rattata (Level 5, 4/17) V.S. Rattata (Level 5, 17/17) and Rattata (Level 4, 13/13)
Before beginning his commands, Kage knelt down besides his Rattata, and said, "Just this one battle, okay? Then we can go to the pokecenter, and get you healed up. I promise." The wounded pokemon looked up at her trainer, and replied, "Raah." Smiling, Kage petted his Rattata, and backed off. It was then Kage began his instructions for his pokemon. "Alright you two, ready? Rattata, use Quick Attack on the one to the right. Pidgey, use Tackle on that one as well. Go!" Rattata bolted at the pokemon, hitting it at tremendous speeds (Rattata: 6/13). With that speed, Rattata returned just as Pidgey went after the same opponent, hitting it with Tackle, finishing it off for the rest of the battle.
Rattata fainted, giving experience. Pidgey earned 20 exp (20/60 exp) Rattata earned 20 exp (30/50 exp)
No sooner than the downed Rattata hit the ground, the other went after Kage's Rattata, causing her to faint (Rattata: 0/17). With a sad look on his face, the dark trainer whispered, "Return, Rattata." She was then consumed by the red beam, now inside her pokeball. Now, Kage held another pokeball in his hand, and said, "Alright, now it's your turn, Cyndaquil!" Within the second he finished those words, the fire pokemon came out of his pokeball, and was ready for action.
Now, with Cyndaquil in the battle, Kage changed the commands. "Alright, Pidgey, go in there and use Sand-attack. Then, Cyndaquil, use Tackle!" Pidgey kicked off, flapping it's wings forwards, then skidding right in front of the Rattata, causing a blindness in the opponent. Not being able to see, the opponent was sent backwards with a great force, caused by Cyndaquil's Tackle (13/17). Upset by the unknown pain, Rattata decided to go after Cyndaquil, previously seeing how the pokemon was wounded before. Rattata, however, could not see Cyndaquil, thus missing it with Tackle. It then retreated back to his original position.
"Alright, that was good, now both of you hit 'em with Tackle!" Pidgey, followed by Cyndaquil, launched themselves at the enemy pokemon, causing a completely effective and completely painful barrage of attacks (Rattata: 3/17). Now getting up, the Rattata could see a bit better now, and decided to go after Cyndaquil with a Tackle. The opponent's attack hit, causing Cyndaquil to fall backwards (Cyndaquil: 1/17). Kage saw this, and exclaimed, "Cyndaquil! You okay?" For a moment, the pokemon lay there, seeming to barely breath. Then, with it's last bit of strength, it got up. Sighing, the dark trainer saw the end of battle at hand. Finally, he said to Pidgey, "Alright, you finish off Rattata with Tackle." Kage then looked over at Cyndaquil, saying, "If Pidgey doesn't hit him, than it'll be your turn to finish Rattata off." Pidgey charged once more, directly at the wounded opponent. Then, it was over, seeing Pidgey ram into Rattata with Tackle.
Rattata fainted, giving experience. Pidgey earned 25 exp (45/60 exp) Cyndaquil earned 25 exp (45/50)
Sending his pokemon back into their rightful pokeballs, Kage knew it was time to visit the pokemon center again. He decided to head back now, walking faster than usual. As the trainer looked into the sky, it was clear that the sun was not visible, and the darkness would soon be settling in. This was good for Kage, very good.
